Susceptibility testing of Malassezia species using the urea broth microdilution method.
A urea broth microdilution method to assay the susceptibilities of seven Malassezia species was developed. This method indicated the same sensitivities as the agar plate dilution method for isolates of Malassezia furfur, M. pachydermatis, M. slooffiae, and M. sympodialis.
متن کاملAntifungal Susceptibility Testing of Malassezia spp. with an Optimized Colorimetric Broth Microdilution Method.
Malassezia is a genus of lipid-dependent yeasts. It is associated with common skin diseases such as pityriasis versicolor and atopic dermatitis and can cause systemic infections in immunocompromised individuals. Owing to the slow growth and lipid requirements of these fastidious yeasts, convenient and reliable antifungal drug susceptibility testing assays for Malassezia spp. are not widely avai...
متن کاملCLSI broth microdilution method for testing susceptibility of Malassezia pachydermatis to thiabendazole
Thiabendazole, classified as antiparasitic and also used as an antifungal drug, can be found as otological solution indicated for treatment of parasitic and fungal external otitis in small animals. Malassezia pachydermatis is a yeast recognized as a normal inhabitant on the skin and mucous membranes of dogs and cats. However, it is considered an opportunistic agent that causes external otitis a...
متن کاملDrug susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by the broth microdilution method with 7H9 broth.
In this study, we have evaluated the broth microdilution method (BMM) for susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A total of 43 clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis and H37Rv as a control strain were studied. All isolates were tested by the proportion method and the BMM for isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RIF), streptomycin (STR), and ethambutol (ETM). The proportion method was carri...
متن کاملAntifungal susceptibility of 44 clinical isolates of Fusarium species determined by using a broth microdilution method.
The MICs and minimum fungicidal concentrations of amphotericin B, natamycin, miconazole, itraconazole, and flucytosine against 17 isolates of Fusarium solani, 14 isolates of Fusarium moniliforme, 10 isolates of Fusarium oxysporum, and 3 isolates of Fusarium semitectum were determined by a broth microdilution method. Amphotericin B and natamycin were the most active agents tested and failed to s...
